New York Mills, MN – At around 6:35 Wednesday night (May 8th), the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department responded to an emergency call regarding a fire at a home in rural New York Mills.

According to officials, the owner of the house said that her lawn mower would start, but was not running correctly, so she parked it in the garage.

After getting it inside, she spotted a small fire in the engine area and tried to extinguish the flame.

When that didn’t work, she pushed the mower, getting it partially outside.

First responders arrived and quickly put the fire out.

The garage had minimal damage, but the mower was a total loss.

No other information has been released.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s office was assisted by the New York Mills Fire Department and the Perham Fire Department.
