Council Member Brent Thompson (City of Fergus Falls)
Fergus Falls, MN – On Saturday (May 11th), Brent Thompson announced his resignation from the Fergus Falls City Council effective immediately.
Brent was the representative for Ward 3, but due to unforeseen circumstances, will be moving outside of city limits, making him ineligible to serve on the Council.
In his resignation letter, Thompson said, “It has been an honor to serve on the council and represent our community for the past seven and a half years. I would like to express my gratitude for the opportunities and experiences I have had while serving on this council. It has been a privilege to work alongside dedicated individuals committed to improving the quality of life in our city.”
City Administrator Andrew Bremseth thanks Councilmember Thompson for his seven years of service on the Council and wishes him well.
At the next City Council meeting on May 20th, the Council will have to declare a vacancy and then begin the task of filling that seat in accordance with Council Vacancy Policy (which can be found in Chapter 2, Section 4 of the City Charter).
The person appointed will finish out this term, until a new council member is elected for a four year term this November.
Only Ward 3 residents are eligible for this appointment.
Specifics on how to apply will be made available after the Council meeting on May 20th.
