Otter Tail County, MN – Minnesota continues to be a leader in ensuring healthy starts for families, with the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program marking 50 years of serving communities across the state. The WIC program has positively impacted the lives of families in Otter Tail County.

According to the Minnesota Department of Health, WIC improves birth outcomes and nutrition for parents and children. Parents participating in the WIC program are more likely to give birth to healthier babies and improve their family’s diet, by eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products. Additionally, children who receive WIC benefits demonstrate improved cognitive development and are less likely to suffer anemia due to iron deficiency.

In Otter Tail County, the WIC program supports growing families, including breastfeeding guidance and an accessible online application process. Families can also use the My MN WIC app to easily use their eWIC cards to access food benefits at local grocery stores and farmers’ markets.

“WIC has played an important role in ensuring that families in the county have the resources they need to thrive. From nutrition education to food access, the program has made a difference in the lives of Otter Tail County parents and children,” said Miranda Soland, WIC Coordinator.
