Fergus Falls, MN – In Otter Tail County Court on Monday (October 14th), 46-year-old Jacob Alley was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 5 years probation for burglarizing a Fergus Falls laundromat in July of 2023.

According to court documents, the Fergus Falls Police Department received a theft and burglary report from the owner of Syn Laundry. He told officers that someone had entered the laundromat in the early morning hours on July 26th, 2023 and forced open a coin machine. The owner showed the officers surveillance footage which showed a white male wearing tan or khaki-colored pants, a black long sleeve shirt, dark
colored boots, gloves and facemask entering the laundromat and walking over to the coin machine. The suspect used a prybar and an inflatable vehicle door wedge to open up the locked door of the machine and remove the bill canister and change.

The owner estimated that $1,742 was taken from the machine, and replacing the damaged machine would cost $5,477.92.

On November 6th, 2023, officers received a tip that identified Alley as the suspect. They made contact with Alley, who had multiple similar features to the suspect on the surveillance footage, but he denied being involved in the burglary. The officers later obtained a search warrant for Alley’s residence and his vehicles and found a pair of black and red gloves that appeared to match those worn during the theft and what appeared to be a burglary tool set.

Back in September, Alley plead guilty to one charge of Theft to enter a plea agreement with Otter Tail County prosecutors. On Monday, he was sentenced to 30 days in Otter Tail County Jail and one year at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud stayed for 5 years. He was also sentenced to pay $2,213.67 in restitution.
