Fergus Falls, MN – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for multiple counties in west central Minnesota.

The warning will be in effect until 7 p.m. tonight (October 17th) for the counties of West Polk, Norman, Clay, Pennington, Red Lake, East Polk, Mahnomen, West Becker, East Becker, Wilkin, Otter Tail, Wadena and Grant Counties in Minnesota.

Highs in the lower 70’s with southerly winds of 29 mph gusting near 40 mph will combine to produce very high fire danger in SE North Dakota and west central Minnesota this afternoon.

This will result in fires that start potentially spreading rapidly.

There have been some reports of grass fires in Wilkin County.

Residents are asked to avoid outside burning, avoid parking cars on grass, check trailers for dragging chains, and to be careful with equipment that may spark.
