St. Paul, MN – State Representative Jeff Backer (R-Browns Valley) was appointed Monday evening to serve as the next Republican Chair of the House Health Finance and Policy Committee. Representative Backer was recently re-elected to serve his 6th term representing West Central Minnesota in the state legislature.
Representative Backer has been a longtime advocate for improved health care access for those living in Greater Minnesota including a more robust Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system across the state.
“I am humbled to be appointed to serve as chair of this important committee that has such a direct impact on the health and wellbeing of Minnesotans across our great state,” said Representative Backer. “Looking ahead to the 2025 legislative session, I look forward to getting to work on the things that matter most to you and your family like lowering the cost of health care, improving access to health care—especially for those of us in Greater Minnesota—and strengthening the state’s EMS system so that no one has to wait for an ambulance when they dial 911.”
Representative Backer has served as a volunteer EMT with the Browns Valley Ambulance Services since 1995 and look forward to bringing that important experience to his new role as Chairman of the Health Finance and Policy Committee.
