Ottertail, MN – The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Otter Tail Lakes Country Association (OTLCA), and Special Olympics Minnesota are thrilled to host the sixth annual Polar Plunge on February 1st, 2025, on Otter Tail Lake. Organizers are seeking participants to take the leap to raise funds for Special Olympics Minnesota and are calling on volunteers to help make the event a success.
The Polar Plunge is a community event that brings together people to support thousands of Special Olympics athletes with intellectual disabilities across Minnesota. Last year, 209 Plungers raised $99,526, surpassing the $75,000 goal. This year’s goal is $100,000, and your help can make all the difference.
Since its inception, the Otter Tail Lake Polar Plunge has raised over $433,465. Each dollar supports athletes by funding year-round training and programs. For instance, a $300 donation can equip a young athlete for an entire season.
Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the Polar Plunge runs smoothly. From registration to event setup to cheering on participants, there’s a role for everyone. Your time will directly contribute to the event’s success and its impact on Special Olympics Minnesota athletes.
As of January 2nd, 94 Plungers have registered, raising $8,368 toward this year’s goal. Otter Tail County Sheriff Barry Fitzgibbons, who will take the plunge again this year, urges community members to get involved. “The Polar Plunge is not just about jumping into a cold lake; it’s also about showing support for an incredible cause. Whether you’re jumping, donating or helping at the event, you will change lives.”
