St. Paul, MN – Governor Tim Walz has signed an executive order creating a new state fraud investigation unit.

Walz says the opportunity for fraud is always present. He adds, “These are not just financial crimes against the state and the taxpayers. These are crimes against children, and what we’ve seen in Minnesota is these crimes have targeted programs that either feed children or help children in need. It’s simply unacceptable.”

The order creates a centralized investigations unit housed within the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) to fight fraud in state programs. Walz says the state can continue to be generous but ensure safeguards are in place.
