Fergus Falls, MN – The Red Cross is hosting its January Blood Drive at the YMCA of the Northern Sky this week.

Volunteers will be drawing blood on Wednesday January 15th and Thursday January 16th from 12 p.m.-6 p.m. and on Friday January 17th from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Dolly Johnson with the Red Cross says it’s important for people of all ages to donate, “Our donor base is getting smaller because our faithful, older donors are maybe no longer able to donate, so we need new donors. Younger ones.”

Sharon, a volunteer at Red Cross and a donor herself, says it’s extremely rewarding to donate, “I use the Blood Donor App on my phone. I get notifications of where my blood goes. Mine’s gone to Pittsburgh, Puerto Rico, Indiana, so it’s just kind of fun to track (and) that we can use it here if we need it, but then it goes where it’s needed. It’s really fun to know that I’m helping people across the country.”

Residents wanting to donate can schedule an appointment at RedCrossBlood.org. With COVID restrictions lifting, the Red Cross is also taking walk-ins.

Donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parental consent.
