Otter Tail County, MN – As rates of flu and other respiratory illnesses continue to rise across our communities, Otter Tail County Public Health reminds residents that it’s not too late to get your flu shot. The flu vaccine is a safe and effective way to protect yourself, your family, and your coworkers from the flu.
“Getting vaccinated is one of the most important steps you can take to protect yourself and others from the flu,” said Alisa Beckman, Otter Tail County Disease Prevention & Control Public Health Nurse. “Even if you haven’t been vaccinated, there’s still time.”
Flu season is here, and with cases increasing, vaccination can:
- Reduce your risk of getting the flu.
- Decrease the severity of symptoms if you do catch the flu.
- Protect vulnerable populations, like young children, older adults, and individuals with underlying health conditions.
Flu vaccines are available at:
- Local clinics and healthcare providers.
- Pharmacies throughout Otter Tail County.
- Otter Tail County Public Health’s flu clinics.

Respiratory illnesses such as influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can spread quickly, especially during winter when people gather indoors. In addition to getting vaccinated against flu, RSV and COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following steps to reduce your risk of respiratory illnesses:
- Wash your hands often
- Stay home when you’re sick
- Cover your coughs and sneezes
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
By getting vaccinated, you’re not just protecting yourself—you’re helping to slow the spread in our communities. Together, we can fight the flu.
