Perham, MN – A man is facing assault charges after getting aggressive with a police officer and spitting in his face multiple times.

According to court documents, a Perham police officer was on a routine patrol of the city shortly after midnight on Monday (February 3rd), when he saw a man, later identified as 26-year-old Troy Hunter Jack of Callaway, walking on the sidewalk that looked highly intoxicated and was struggling to walk right. The officer came back around to look for Jack, and found him rolling around on the ground, trying to get back on his feet.

The officer attempted to speak with Jack, but he was not speaking coherently and the officer called Perham EMS for medical assistance. The officer then told Jack to continue laying down, and Jack became aggressive, calling the officer a “b***h” saying he would kill him. Jack advanced towards the officer, who commanded Jack to back up and eventually pushed Jack slightly, causing him to lose his balance and fall.

Court documents say Jack swore at the officer again and started throwing snow and ice. He regained his footing and attempted to strike the officer with his right hand, but he missed. Jack continued to advance despite the officer’s commands and eventually spat on the officer’s face. The officer then assisted Jack down and told him to relax.

Jack continued to physically resist, and when the officer let go, Jack rolled and kicked the officer in the leg. He continued to spin towards the street and the officer grabbed at his sleeve to keep him from rolling into the road. Jack then spat in the officer’s face again.

Eventually, Perham EMS and additional officers arrived and loaded Jack into the ambulance. The EMS went around a half a block before pulling over because Jack became combative began pulling hoses and wires out of the ambulance. Additionally, Jack spit in the faces of an EMT that was attempting to read his temperature and an Otter Tail County Deputy while they were trying to restrain him. He was eventually secured and taken to Perham Health, before being transferred to the Otter Tail County Detention Facility.

Jack made his first court appearance on Wednesday morning (February 5th). He’s been charged with 4th Degree Assault of a Police Officer and Obstructing the Legal Process.
