Fergus Falls, MN – Fish houses need to be removed from lakes in Otter Tail County by the end of day on Monday.
With warmer temperatures continuing and wind in the forecast, the DNR recommends extra caution if heading out onto the ice. Ice Safety Coordinator Nicole Biagi says to be sure to measure the thickness in both directions of your route.
Biagi says, “This winter has been very good for forming clear, solid ice. We’ve had cold temperatures and a lack of snowfall, so there’s still a lot of solid, clear ice around the state, so the ice isn’t ruined by these few days in the 40s. But if the temperatures continue this way and. If we have some strong winds, it could deteriorate much faster.”
The DNR says dark houses, fish houses, and portables must be removed from lakes south of U.S. Highway 10 and Highway 34 by the end of March 3rd, but county sheriffs may prohibit or restrict the use of motorized vehicles if the ice conditions are dangerous.
