Otter Tail County Court Holding Open House for Law Day

Fergus Falls, MN – In celebration of Law Day, Otter Tail County is inviting community members and school groups to an Open House on Thursday, May 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the historic county courthouse at 121 West Junius Avenue in Fergus Falls.

Otter Tail County Court Administrator Trisha Mernitz says, “This event is a fantastic opportunity for community members to learn how our justice system works and meet the dedicated professionals who help uphold the rule of law every day. We’re excited to give the public a closer look at the important work happening inside the courthouse.”

Mernitz says this event is an opportunity to explore the justice system and engage directly with judges, courthouse staff, and justice partners. Throughout the day, attendees can participate in a variety of activities designed to educate, inform, and inspire:

  • Court Observation – Sit in on live courtroom proceedings and gain insight into how justice is administered. While the court is in session, approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Courthouse Tour – Go behind the scenes and explore the historic and functional spaces of the courthouse. Tours are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
  • Mock Trial – Experience a fun and educational trial simulation. Scheduled for 1:15-3:30 p.m.
  • Information Fair – Meet with legal service providers and justice partners to learn about resources available in the community from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Selfie Station: You Be the Judge! – Snap a photo of yourself in a judge’s robe and share your experience. Station available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
