Dent, MN – A trash fire turned into a larger shop fire in rural Dent late Thursday night (June 5th).
Otter Tail County Deputies responded to the home of Shirley and Robert Bush after Shirley reported that the shop next to their home was on fire at about 10:45 p.m.
The Dent, Vergas, and Pelican Rapids fire departments responded to the house to extinguish the fire. Dent Rescue and Pelican Rapids Ambulance also responded to treat Shirley for smoke inhalation before transporting her to the hospital.
Deputies say the shop was a total loss, including the two vehicles, snowblower, and power tools inside. The home next to the shop was also damaged by the smoke.
Robert told deputies that he had been burning trash in a steel drum containing aerosol cans. He said the cans began to explode near the shop, setting it on fire. The State Fire Marshall is investigating.
