Fergus Falls, MN – A homeless man was arrested for attacking an SUV Saturday night (June 7th), causing significant damage.
Court documents say the Fergus Falls Police Department were responding to a report of a disturbance when they found 31-year-old Jonathan Joel Morales-Cruz forcefully hitting a vehicle and throwing an unknown object at it. Officers say the vehicle was heavily damaged, with a large dent on the driver’s side and multiple broken windows. There was a large amount of glass on the ground, and what appeared to be a parking lot sign next to the vehicle that was used to damage it.
Officers say that when they attempted to arrest Morales-Cruz, he lunged at an officer and was tased. He continued to refuse orders, but was eventually taken into custody. During the arrest, officers noted the smell of alcohol on Morales-Cruz’s breath, as well as multiple empty beer cans on the ground outside of the SUV. Prosecutors say Morales-Cruz and the owner of the SUV are known to each other.
Officers estimate the repairs for the SUV will cost over $5,000. Another vehicle parked nearby was also damaged.
Morales-Cruz made his first court appearance on Tuesday (June 10th) and has been charged with criminal damage to property and obstructing the legal process with force.
