City of Fergus Falls Announces the Three Finalists For Police Chief

The City of Fergus Falls has announced the three finalists that have been chosen for the position of Police Chief.

Justin Paul has a 27-year career in law enforcement and currently serves as a Captain in the Bettendorf, Iowa Police Department. Paul has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology from St. Ambrose University. He also holds two master’s Degrees from St. Ambrose University: a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Criminal Justice.

Todd Quaintance has a 25-year career in law enforcement, with 14.5 years of experience as a Police Chief. He is currently serving as the Police Chief of Pelican Rapids, MN, and has also served as the Chief in the cities of Battle Lake and Milaca. Quaintance obtained his MN P.O.S.T. Skill Certification from Alexandria Technical College and holds an Associate of Arts Degree from St. Cloud State University.

Robert Velde has over two decades of progressive law enforcement experience. He has served his career with the City of Morris Police Department and is currently the Director/Police Chief of the University of Minnesota Morris Public Safety department. Velde obtained a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement from Minnesota State University, Mankato and he holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Leadership from Concordia University of St. Paul.

The Chief of Public Safety role is currently held by Kile Bergren, who announced his upcoming retirement from the city earlier this year. Bergren has worked for the City of Fergus Falls since December of 2001 and has served as the Chief since October of 2010.

The public is invited to a Meet and Greet session next Tuesday, July 15, from 5:30-6:30 pm in the Jean Dahling Community Room at the Fergus Falls Public Library to meet the three finalists.
