DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Minnesota State Patrol, wants to remind WE Fest attendees that no parking is allowed along Highway 59 prior to noon on Monday, Aug. 4. Vehicles arriving before noon on Monday will not be permitted to park on the shoulder and will be subject to removal and penalty by State Patrol.
Vehicles staged along Highway 59 after noon on Monday must be parked on the shoulder and parking is at the owner’s risk. Guests must stay within their vehicles and are not permitted to set up camps, chairs, grills, etc., outside of their vehicles.
The area will be patrolled by the Minnesota State Patrol and WE Fest Security.
Road construction navigation
When traveling to and from Detroit Lakes, WE Fest attendees should be aware of several area road construction projects. Motorists should plan accordingly or consider an alternate route to avoid back-ups and long delays in the following areas:
- Wadena: Portions of Highway 10 and Highway 71 in Wadena are currently closed and detoured for road construction. Please be patient and navigate through the detours with care and caution. Expect heavy traffic, congestion and extra law enforcement.
- I-94 near Rothsay and Fergus Falls: Current head-to-head traffic on I-94 between Rothsay and Fergus Falls. The I-94 on-ramp at Highway 59 and eastbound I-94 is closed to all traffic, so post-event travelers heading to eastbound I-94 will follow the detour on County Road 88 through the City of Fergus Falls.
- Pelican Rapids: There is road construction underway on Highway 59 and Highway 108 in Pelican Rapids. Please obey the automated traffic signals directing traffic one lane at a time on Highway 59, and be prepared to stop.
- Moorhead: Current road work on I-94 Red River bridge in Fargo-Moorhead may cause backups and long delays at peak travel times.
MnDOT reminds motorists to never enter areas blocked by barriers or cones, and always travel with extra caution in work zones.
