Fergus Falls, MN – Today is the day for the Be a Villager Feed-A-Thon in Fergus Falls, an event where volunteers will be distributing meal kits, baby food, formula, and other supplies to those in need due to the federal government shutdown.

Organizer Jeney Christensen says she doesn’t just want to feed people. She says, “We’re giving them some dignity back. You can always just give people a box of Mac and Cheese, but sometimes it’s really nice for them to be able to pull a meal together for their family in a pot and serve it into the bowl.”

Jeney is urging people who are struggling to come and get the assistance, “Please, there’s no shame. We’re all here to help. There’s no need to feel embarrassed. We want to feed you. We want to help you. We want to be there for you.”

Volunteers will be distributing food and supplies at the YMCA of the Northern Sky from 2-7 this afternoon and evening, as well as making deliveries to those that signed up for it. While an end to the federal government shutdown is on the horizon, federal employees and Americans on SNAP benefits are still suffering the consequences of it.
