Fergus Falls, MN – A South Fargo man was arrested this weekend for assaulting a vulnerable adult at a group home in Fergus Falls.

Prosecutors say 29-year-old Akeem Prince Smith was taken into custody after Fergus Falls Police arrived at the group home at around 3:52 a.m. Saturday, December 27, on a report of an assault in progress.

Officers spoke with the victim, who said they had heard Smith, who was one of the staff members, banging things on the main floor of the house and went to see if he had called them. Smith began banging things again, and the two argued as the victim told him to stop. The victim said they got mad and splashed some water on Smith, who then pushed them down, put them in a headlock, and at some point, kicked them and stomped their chest.

Court documents say the victim showed officers injuries that were consistent with the story. The victim told police that that other than throwing water on Smith, they never physically touched him.

Smith made his first court appearance Monday morning and has been charged with 4th degree assault of a vulnerable adult, which is a gross misdemeanor.
