St. Paul, MN – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has dropped his bid for 2026 re-election.
In a statement this morning, Governor Walz said that he is confident that if he gave the race his all, that he would be re-elected, “But as I reflected on this moment with my family and my team over the holidays, I cane to the conclusion I can’t give a political campaign my all. Every minute I spend defending my own political interests would be a minute I can’t spend defending the people of Minnesota against the criminals who prey on our generosity and the cynics who prey on our differences. So I’ve decided to step out of the race and let others worry about the election while I focus on the work.”
Democratic Governors Association Chair Andy Beshear said in response to Walz’s announcement, “No matter who decides to run or how much national Republicans want to spend, the DGA remains confident Minnesotans will elect another strong Democratic governor this November.”
Walz also said that President Trump and his allies want to make Minnesota a colder, meaner place and take away much of what makes Minnesota, “the best place in America to raise a family.” Republicans and the White House have been blaming Walz for the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme and other fraud in Medicaid and Department of Human services programs.
