Elizabeth, MN – Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach says more than $9 million in federal funding is going to 11 infrastructure projects in Minnesota’s 7th District.

Of the $9 million, $1,750,000 will be going to the City of Elizabeth to overhaul aging water and sanitation systems. These funds will address urgent infrastructure failures, protect local groundwater, and ensure the long-term health and safety of the community.

“Reliable water and waste management systems are a necessity for rural communities,” said Rep. Fischbach. “For too long, the people of Elizabeth have dealt with frequent pipe breaks and a sewer system that is failing to meet modern standards. I am proud to secure this investment, which will modernize Elizabeth’s infrastructure, prevent costly emergency repairs, and safeguard the environment for generations to come.”

The City of Elizabeth’s current water system, installed roughly 45 years ago, has become increasingly unreliable, suffering from multiple pipe breaks annually. The new federal funding will support:
  • Replacement of aging PVC water mains and service lines to eliminate frequent leaks.
  • Installation of modern water meters to provide more accurate reporting and identify system-wide water loss.
  • Repair of a sanitary collection system that currently suffers from cracks and root intrusions that violate safety standards.

The City of Barnesville will also be receiving $750,000 for its water improvement project.
