Fergus Falls, MN – A resident at a psychiatric hospital in Fergus Falls has been charged with assault.
Otter Tail County Prosecutors say a staff member of the hospital was leading a group for residents at the facility, when one of them got up and punched the staff member fourteen times in the head and face, while other staff attempted to restrain the resident.
Court documents say the staff member was taken to the emergency room. They had swelling on their face, pressure in their ear, a lump on their head and a black eye from the assault. Police spoke with the resident, who said they believed the staff member had said “negative and threatening things” about the resident’s family.
The resident made their first court appearance Monday morning.
