(Washington, D.C.) – Transgender girls could be banned from playing in girls’ sports in Minnesota. The Department of Justice (DOJ) is suing the state and its High School League (MNHSL), claiming they’re violating Title Nine (IX), a federal law against sex discrimination in educational programs.
Attorney General Pam Bondi says, “The Trump Administration does not tolerate flawed state policies that ignore biological reality and unfairly undermine girls on the playing field.”
The M-N-H-S-L did not follow an executive order from President Donald Trump in February that banned transgender girls and women from participating in sports teams that match their gender identity. The lawsuit also threatens federal funding to Minnesota’s Department of Education, saying it’s “contingent on Title Nine compliance.”
The M-N-H-S-L and Attorney General Keith Ellison have yet to comment.
