Fergus Falls, MN – School officials are advising parents that there will be an increase in law enforcement presence at Kennedy Secondary School on Thursday due to the school hosting the Minnesota Court of Appeals. It is not in response to any threat or emergency.
Superintendent Jeff Drake says it is standard procedure for law enforcement to provide additional security whenever the Court of Appeals holds sessions at a public site. Their presence is to ensure the smooth operation of the educational event and to maintain a safe environment for both the guests and school community.
Judges JaPaul Harris, Elizabeth Bentley, and Anne Rasmusson will hear oral arguments in the case State of Minnesota versus Abdirahman Mohamed Abdi starting at 9:45 a.m. Nearly 600 students are expected to attend. After arguments, judges will answer student questions, share lunch, visit classrooms, and hold a media availability.
Drake says staff are excited to provide students with this front-row seat to the judicial process. The oral arguments will be live streamed on the high school’s YouTube page.
