Verndale, MN – The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office says a home in rural Verndale was fully engulfed in flames when law enforcement arrived Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies received a 911 call at around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday reporting a house fire in Aldrich Township, southeast of Verndale. Upon arrival, all occupants were reported to have safely evacuated the home.

Fire crews from Verndale, Staples, and Wadena worked for several hours to extinguish the fire. Due to the high winds, the fire spread into the grass, but firefighters were able to quickly contain it before it spread any further.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Verndale Fire Department. The State Patrol, Minnesota DNR, and Astera Health EMS also assisted at the scene.
