Governor Walz Announces DHS Leadership Changes Day Before Confirmation Hearing

St. Paul, MN – Governor Tim Walz is making changes at the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Moving forward, the governor says John Connolly will serve as the temporary commissioner of DHS with Shireen Ghandi now moving to deputy commissioner. This is a reversal of positions, and it happened on the day before Ghandi was to have confirmation hearings.  Walz says the changes will ensure stability and continue to strengthen oversight.

“Minnesotans were told Shireen Gandhi’s leadership would bring reform to DHS, yet now she is being shuffled to a different position so that Senate Democrats can avoid a confirmation hearing,” said Senator Jordan Rasmusson (R-Fergus Falls), Republican lead on the Human Services Committee. “While Minnesotans are tired of failure, Democrats continue to ignore the deep, systemic problems embedded in DHS culture and avoid providing any meaningful accountability to the Walz Administration.”
