House Report Faults Minnesota Leaders Over Fraud Oversight

Washington D.C. (MNN) – A Republican-led U.S. House committee is accusing Minnesota leaders of failing to act on warnings about fraud in federally funded social service programs.

The 205-page report alleges Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison were aware of concerns dating back to 2019 but failed to stop payments to suspicious providers. The report also claims some state employees who raised red flags faced retaliation.

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer is urging the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud to review Minnesota’s social service programs stretching back several years.

A spokesman for Governor Walz said, “This committee has proven time and time again to be nothing more than a joke. They continue to rehash COVID-era fraud to distract from endless wars, gas prices, ICE, and the President’s insider trading. Governor Walz is glad to see fraudsters are going to prison.”

A spokesperson for Attorney General Keith Ellison said, “Republicans in Congress issued a report riddled with inaccuracies and misrepresentations in an effort to politicize the issue of fraud, instead of actually helping Minnesota protect tax dollars and go after fraudsters. In areas where Attorney General Ellison has the authority to file criminal charges, he has charged and convicted over 340 Medicaid fraudsters.”
