Fergus Falls, MN – Multiple buildings were evacuated in response to a gas leak in downtown Fergus Falls Wednesday morning.
Fire Chief Ryan Muchow says both the Fergus Falls Police and Fire Departments were notified of a gas line hit in the 100 block of N Mill St. Emergency crews arrived to find a 2″ line that had been hit by construction crews.
Due to the leak and levels found within adjacent buildings, an evacuation was conducted of buildings along the North side of Lincoln Avenue between Mill and Court Street. Great Plains arrived and was able to shut off the gas line near the leak.
As of 8:30 a.m., fire crews were ventilating affected buildings and conducting continuous air monitoring. Great Plains estimated gas restoration would occur this morning to downtown properties.
Pat Shol, owner of the Viking Cafe, says that due to the leak, the restaurant will be closed today.
