This Saturday marks 20 years since September 11, 2001. There will be a Walk of Remembrance in Fergus Falls, in honor of this tragic day.
Mike Mortenson, who is one of the organizers of this event says, “It’s a time for us to come together and remember what had occurred and also honor our police, fire departments and first responders that have served our country so well”
The walk itself, will go from the Fergus Falls Police Station to the Fergus Falls Fire Department. It will begin at 8:46a, which is the exact time that the first tower was hit.
Mr. Mortenson added, “We want the community to feel like you are walking behind our local heroes. Our local fire department, our local police, our local EMTs. We want you to get the feeling of them walking towards the danger that day, walking those four blocks towards those towers and we are behind them in support of what they’re doing and in support of what occurred that day.”
Washington Ave (from about city hall to the fire department) will be blocked off during the walk.
There are a few places for people to park. There is a city owned parking lot between city hall and M&H. Parking will also be available on Lincoln Ave and Court Street.
It is recommended that people start showing up sometime between 8:15a and 8:30a.
Mr. Mortenson says, “We don’t want Fergus Falls residents and citizens of our country to forget what happened that day.”
