At Fergus Falls public schools beginning today, all students in grades pre-K- 6th will be required to wear a mask unless the student meets one of the mask exemption criteria. This will be in effect during the regular school day.
Currently, all district staff will be required to wear a mask during the workday. The district is well-aware that the use of masks is not universally supported by everyone in our community, however, we do ask for everyone’s cooperation.
Fergus Falls Superintendent of public schools Jeff Drake said, we are well above the pace for positive student and staff cases in comparison to last school year. The district has already encountered staffing issues making it difficult, if not impossible, to provide the level of support that meets our standards and expectations. Our goal is to continue in-person learning throughout the school year. To do that, it has become clear that we need to slow the spread of the disease. Our current mitigation strategies are not enough.
The mask mandate will be in effect through the MEA break (October 25) and we will reassess at that point.
And as that mask mandate goes into effect a private Facebook group calling themselves the “Fergus Falls PreK-6 Parents Against Masks” is planning to attend tonight’s school board meeting at the Kennedy Secondary School auditorium. They will gather at the corner of Lincoln and Union and will walk to Kennedy, where they will be making a group statement during the public comment session that follows the regularly scheduled meeting, at the start of the board’s work session.
The Founder of the private Facebook group, Laura Dewey, will join Mary Dolan and Dave Bishop during Morning Talk Magazine at 9:35 this morning on News Talk 1250 KBRF
