PioneerCare in Fergus Falls is one of the state’s first three long term care facilities to receive members of the Minnesota National Guard skilled nursing response teams.

The deployment is a temporary response to help provide critical care for the residents and much needed relief for Pioneer’s weary caregivers.

PioneerCare released a statement saying, “The ten Minnesota National Guard members joining the Pioneer team for the next two weeks will be welcomed by the seniors we serve and our dedicated caregiversOur staff members are stretched thin, and the stress of COVID-19 has taken a toll. …We appreciate the commitment from our state government partners and look forward to working together to find permanent solutions to help us recruit and retain the quality caregivers we need to serve the seniors in our community.”

Other cities receiving National Guard skilled nursing response teams are Onamia and New Hope. Governor Walz also announced an initiative to recruit, train and deploy at least a thousand new certified nursing assistants to long-term care facilities in Minnesota by the end of January.

He says the program will recruit qualified Minnesotans and enroll them in certification courses at Minnesota State campuses.
