Minnesota Senate GOP Rolls Out Legislative Priorities

By Dave Bishop Jan 27, 2022 | 8:49 AM

Minnesota Senate Republicans say public safety is their number-one priority for the 2022 legislative session which begins Monday.

Majority Leader Jeremy Miller of Winona says,”More cops results in less crime. We will put forward proposals to hold violent criminals accountable for their actions.”  That focus is different from House Democrats, who propose community policing and other programs, they say to prevent crime in the first place.

And the G-O-P’s focus is much different on using the state’s nearly eight-billion-dollar budget surplus.

Miller said, “instead of a governor gimmick, Senate Republicans are gonna focus on permanent, long-term, ongoing tax relief.”

Governor Tim Walz and Democrats are pushing what they call long-term investments in education and child care.
