Fatal Train vs Truck Accident South East of Ottertail City

At approximately 8:48 Thursday morning, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries, which involved an eastbound pickup truck that was struck by a northbound Canadian Pacific train.

The crash occurred at the railroad crossing on 308th Street, near the intersection with 460th Avenue (southeast of Ottertail City).

The vehicle, a Dodge Ram pickup truck, was struck on the passenger side, and it was badly damaged in the collision. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries in the crash, and he passed away at the scene.

Neither of the two Canadian Pacific train crew personnel were injured.

The driver was a 60 year old male, who resided in the rural Ottertail City area. The driver’s name has not been released, pending notification of relatives.

The Ottertail Fire Department and First Responders, Perham EMS, Henning Ambulance, and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
