(St. Paul, MN) — Ninety percent of deer fawns are born between now and mid-June in Minnesota.
The D-N-R says fawns remain very still in their first few weeks to avoid being seen and that does not mean anything is wrong with them.
If you encounter a fawn it should be left alone. Their mothers, in all likelihood will return to nurse them several times a day. The early days also allow the fawn to develop survival skills which could be stunted by interaction with people.
If there is a question as to whether the fawn is injured, instead of approaching it, call the D-N-R right away.
