Cold Weather May Make Larger Fish Tough to Land Early in the Season

(Cass Lake, MN) — In the days following today’s fishing opener, anglers across northern Minnesota will be able to get on most lakes after a late “ice out” this spring.

D-N-R Fisheries Supervisor Edie Evarts of Bemidji says that creates a few challenges to land that big fish.

Chief among them is how cold the lakes still are even without ice.

That condition Evarts says can cause the lunkers to head for deeper waters. She recommends trying your luck in smaller bays with shallower depths.
