Minneapolis City Leaders Promise Security Briefing Leading Up To Chauvin Trial

By Dave Bishop Feb 18, 2021 | 8:56 AM

(Minneapolis, MN)  —  Minneapolis city leaders say they will be making regular briefings on their security preparations leading up to the murder trial for former police officer Derek Chauvin next month.

Mayor Jacob Frey says the city and leaders of 12 jurisdictions have been working on a safety plan.  Chauvin is accused of causing the death of George Floyd last year.  The trial is expected to raise emotions to a fever pitch.

Frey says there will be an increased law enforcement presence during the trial process – which could last until late April.  He says 11-hundred law enforcement officers and another two-thousand Minnesota National Guard soldiers could be involved.

It’s called Operation Safety Net.
