Attention all ice anglers! With winter slowly drawing to a close, it’s time to take note of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR) regulations for dark houses, fish houses, and portables.
According to the MN DNR, all dark houses, fish houses, and portables must be removed from the ice no later than 11:59 p.m. on March 6th, 2023.
After this date, shelters may remain on the ice only when occupied or attended.
This regulation is in place to ensure the safety of both the anglers and the environment.
The MN DNR warns that any shelters left on the ice beyond the removal date will be considered abandoned and may be removed and confiscated by a conservation officer.
Moreover, if you’re planning to go fishing after the deadline, make sure to buy a new angling license.
The 22/23 licenses expired on February 28th, 2023, and failure to obtain a new one could result in a citation.
So, for those still planning on enjoying a few more days of ice fishing, make sure to pack up your shelter on time and have a valid angling license before hitting the ice… Stay safe.
