SoapWerks Naturals, a local manufacturer of cold process soaps, bath, and body care products, is excited to announce the opening of its new Refillery in downtown Fergus Falls.
The Refillery, located at 216 W. Lincoln Ave., is an expansion of the retail store that opened in September 2020, and offers a wide range of eco-friendly and affordable products.
Owners Jan and Chris Werkau had initially planned to add a refill station when they first opened SoapWerks, but due to growing concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was put on hold.
Now, as more consumers look for sustainable and environmentally conscious products, the timing is perfect for the Refillery.
Open Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, the Refillery offers a variety of low-waste and plastic-free options, including solid dish soap, stain sticks, toothpaste tabs, all-purpose cleaner tabs, baby wipe solutions, laundry sheets, and dryer balls.
Customers can bring in their own clean and dry containers, use an empty SoapWerks container, or purchase a glass or paperboard container to fill with their desired products.
Sustainability has always been at the core of the Werkau’s business, sourcing local ingredients such as goat milk, lard, tallow, and sunflower oils for their products.
During the growing season, they also utilize locally grown botanicals, herbs, and produce in their product formulations.
The Werkau’s have been working with Greater Fergus Falls (GFF) through their Entrepreneur Initiative, receiving free and confidential one-on-one consulting for start-ups, existing businesses, and ownership transfers. NeTia Bauman, CEO of GFF, praised the couple’s efforts, stating,
“Small business ownership requires a great deal of risk-taking, and we can count on serial entrepreneurs like Jan and Chris to continue shaping the economic landscape of our community.”
