An Army veteran residing in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, received an unusual package through the mail, containing only a single face mask.

James Walters, the recipient, initially believed it was from the VA hospital, as he receives his medication from them in similar packaging.

When he reached into the package, he felt a burning sensation on his hand after pulling out the mask.

Concerned, Walters contacted the police, fearing that the incident may have been malicious.

Clay County Public Health confirmed that receiving a solitary mask in the mail is a scam, and Walters is not the only victim.

Another person had a similar situation happen to them in Moorhead receiving an identical mask, complete with the same name, return address, and packaging.

If a similar incident happens to anyone, Fergus Falls Police Department recommends contacting your local post office and law enforcement for assistance.

“Figure out what the concern is and go through the same protocols.” said Sgt. Connor West of the Fergus Falls PD.

Walters expressed his disappointment over the situation, as he believes that someone wasted their time and money to send him something that caused a reaction.

Consequently, he now approaches all his mail with skepticism, even from reputable companies like Amazon.
