(Cyrus, MN) — Officials say 34-year-old Bryan Nygard is the suspect fatally shot by officers after he fired at them during a domestic dispute call Saturday in the west-central Minnesota community of Cyrus.

Deputy Josh Owen was shot three times and died at the hospital.  Deputy Brody Merrill was struck once in the upper chest in his vest and Officer Alex Olson was hit in the ankle.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says after officers talked with Nygard and a woman in the apartment, they told Nygard he was under arrest and the suspect, who was sitting at a table, “stood up, drew a firearm and began firing.”

A public memorial service for Deputy Owen is Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Minnewaska School Gymnasium in Glenwood. Visitation is Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the service begins.
