Boy Killed in Boating accident Identified

The boy who died in a boating accident in Northern Otter Tail County on Thursday afternoon has been identified.

According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department, the victim was 13 year old Benjamin Rennie from the Andover and Coon Rapids areas.

The incident occurred just after 4pm on Thursday. Two juveniles, including Rennie, were riding on an inner tube being pulled by a boat operated by a North Central Camp Cherith employee on Lake Six, just north of Vergas.

Rennie and the other juvenile fell off the tube and Rennie was accidentally struck by the boat as they were attempting to pick him up. Both juveniles were wearing personal flotation devices.

Life saving measures were unsuccessful Rennie was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No criminal charges are anticipated.

The investigation of the incident continues to be ongoing.
