(Chanhassen, MN) — There is some severe weather in the forecast today (Wednesday) – but it has been a fairly quiet season for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in Minnesota.
Pete Boulay with the State Climatology Office says the lack of activity this year follows a record number of severe weather reports in 2022.
He says last year we had 653 severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings, the record low is 1988 with 76 and, this year we’re only at 159 so far. Boulay says many of the thunderstorms this summer are missing central and southeastern Minnesota and hitting western Wisconsin.
