As summer draws to a close and the anticipation of the new school year builds, families in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, are coming together to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children in need worldwide.

In celebration of its 30th year, Operation Christmas Child, a heartwarming initiative by Samaritan’s Purse, is once again uniting communities and filling empty shoeboxes with school supplies, personal care items, and toys, all destined to bring smiles to the faces of children in over 100 countries.

Operation Christmas Child has been a beacon of hope, bringing joy and essentials to countless children who lack access to even the most basic necessities. Local residents are seizing the opportunity to contribute to this noble cause by assembling shoeboxes brimming with love and care.

With back-to-school sales in full swing, these compassionate packers are taking advantage of cost-efficient supplies, ensuring that each shoebox is thoughtfully curated to make a profound difference in the lives of young recipients.

The significance of these seemingly small gifts cannot be understated. For many children like Justin Thomas, a recipient from Southeast Asia, these shoeboxes represent not just items, but the key to an education and a brighter future.

With a heartwarming smile, Thomas recalls the life-altering moment he received a gift-filled shoebox that contained not only cherished toys but also essential school supplies.

For a young boy whose parents struggled to afford even the most basic educational tools, this gesture was nothing short of transformative.

Thomas, who used to write with a stubby pencil held together by a pen cap, found a treasure trove of new pencils and a pencil sharpener.

These simple items opened the doors to an education that had previously seemed out of reach. The impact of this act of kindness resonates to this day, illustrating how a small gesture can set the course for an entire life.

Operation Christmas Child is a reflection of Samaritan’s Purse’s commitment to demonstrating love and compassion in tangible ways to children around the world.

Since its inception in 1993, this remarkable initiative has collected and delivered over 209 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 170 countries and territories.

As the project celebrates its 30th anniversary, the message of hope and goodwill it carries remains unwavering.

As the calendar inches closer to National Collection Week, slated for Nov. 13-20, individuals are invited to be part of this heartwarming endeavor.

A $10 donation per shoebox gift through the “Follow Your Box” program provides donors with a tracking label, allowing them to follow their gift’s journey.

For those who prefer online shopping, samaritanspurse.org/buildonline offers a convenient platform to select gifts tailored to a child’s age and gender, while also enabling the addition of a personal note and photo to complete the virtual shoebox.
