Otter Girls Triumph in Swim and Dive Dual Against Perham/New York Mills

The Otter Girls Swim and Dive squad delivered an impressive performance as they outswam and outperformed the Perham/New York Mills Yellowjackets on Tuesday evening. The final score stood at a decisive 109-68.

Estee VerSteeg continued her stellar form, securing first-place finishes in both the 200 and 100 freestyle events. Aisling Cox displayed her prowess, clinching first place in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke. Notably, Alexis Wellman conquered the 500 freestyle, Karlie Petersen excelled in the 100 breaststroke, and Ava Api triumphed in the 100 fly. The Fergus Falls varsity relay teams were unbeatable throughout the evening. The girls now anticipate a home face-off against Willmar on Thursday, which marks their senior night.

 

Lady Knights Dominate Benson in 3 Sets

The West Central Area volleyball team, with only one match scheduled for the week against Benson on Tuesday, didn’t have a particularly swift start in each set against the Braves. Nevertheless, the Knights gradually built momentum in each set and secured a convincing 3-0 victory, with scores of 25-14, 25-17, and 25-14.

The Knights are set to square off against Montevideo next Tuesday at Montevideo, followed by a tournament in Fergus Falls on Thursday, October 19, just before the playoffs. Coach Foslien emphasized that this tournament promises strong competition and serves as valuable preparation for the postseason.

 

Chargers Dominate Arrows in LEC Volleyball Match

The Brandon-Evansville Charger Volleyball team embarked on a journey to Ashby High School to face the Ashby Arrows in a Little Eight Conference contest on Tuesday. The Chargers displayed their prowess by securing a commanding 3-0 victory against the Arrows.

In the first set, the Chargers took the lead early, thanks to powerful hits and nimble footwork. A remarkable 12-point serving run by Skylar Bitzan, combined with impressive hitting from Taylor Dingwall, Kylee Dingwall, Claire Boesl, and Haddy Baune, led to a resounding victory with a score of 25-9. In the second set, Taylor Suchy and Hallie Richter showcased solid defense and set up numerous attacks, ultimately concluding with a score of 25-15 in favor of the Chargers. The third set saw a spirited effort from the Arrows, with both teams engaged in thrilling volleys and displaying remarkable agility. Nevertheless, the Chargers maintained their composure and secured the set 25-15, sealing the match in their favor.

 

A-B-E Cross Country Invite at Pine Ridge Golf Course

The A-B-E Invite Cross Country meet took place on a picturesque Tuesday at Pine Ridge Golf Course. Coach Robert Bosma commented on the ideal running conditions, which contributed to a faster race. Despite dealing with illnesses and injuries that sidelined a few key runners, the team delivered an admirable performance. Many athletes achieved personal records and displayed strong finishes.

Among the A-B-E girls, Lexi Bitzan and Ashley Paulson engaged in a fierce back-and-forth battle throughout the race, as did Naomi Fournier and Hope Rovang. LPGE claimed the team title with 20 points, while Ashby-Brandon-Evansville secured the second spot with a total score of 38.

 

Huskies Secure 3-0 Victory Over Aitkin with Balanced Attack

The Pillager volleyball team executed a remarkable performance on Tuesday night, sweeping aside Aitkin with scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-17. The Huskies displayed a balanced and coordinated offensive strategy, with Makenna Camacho, Alivia Brown, Jada Louks, and Briana Blais each contributing six kills. Bridgett Danielson orchestrated the attack with 27 set assists, and in the dig department, Aidyn Schuett led with 11, while Mari Williams added four crucial digs.

 

Hillcrest Boys’ Soccer’s Abram Ness Named Olson Oil Company Athlete of the Week

Senior captain Abram Ness of the Hillcrest Boys’ Soccer Team earned the Olson Oil Company Athlete of the Week title after an outstanding week. Ness delivered an impressive performance, scoring six goals and providing three assists in two victories for the Comet. Additionally, Hillcrest secured the number one seed in the North half of Section 8A.

Ness’s remarkable performance in the 6-0 win over Melrose included scoring from a free kick, a rebound shot, a corner kick, and a long-range effort into the right corner of the net. He also contributed an assist on a Drew Fischer header following a corner kick. In the win against Melrose, Ness scored via a penalty kick and assisted on two additional Hillcrest goals.

 

Maddie Ballweg Named MCAC South Division Defensive Athlete of the Week

M State freshman libero Maddie Ballweg, an alumnus of Hillcrest Lutheran Academy, was awarded the MCAC South Division Defensive Athlete of the Week. She displayed exceptional defensive skills by digging 62 balls in 10 sets, averaging 6.2 digs per set. In addition, Ballweg contributed two aces, and her outstanding performance helped the Spartans secure two victories, with 26 digs in a single match against Alexandria.
