The Fergus Falls Fire Department responded at 10:35 Monday morning, October 30th to a residential fire at 1021 South Sheridan Street.

The original report came from care takers who noticed smoke coming from a roof vent while working outside at the neighboring home.

The occupants were evacuating upon the arrival of the Fergus Falls Police and Fire Departments. Smoke was visible from the exterior roof vent and soffit. Fire crews used thermal imaging cameras to look for hot spots in the ceiling of the home.

Crews pulled the ceiling in two rooms to expose the burning area and extinguish the fire. With the fire starting in the attic structural components, it required significant overhaul to remove smoldering insulation. The area where the fire originated had fire damage to the rafters and the electrical wiring.

The rest of the home had smoke damage. The Fire Department was assisted by the Fergus Falls Police Department and Ringdahl EMS. The American Red Cross is working with the displaced occupants to find temporary housing.

Damage estimate is $60,000. The fire is unintentional, resulting from an electrical wire in the attic.

No injuries were reported

The Fire Department was on scene for 1 1/2 hours and responded with 3 Engine’s, 1 Rescue Truck, and 3 command staff.
