On Tuesday night at the Detroit Lakes Triangular, Barnesville experienced setbacks in two wrestling duals.
The Trojans were defeated by the host Lakers with a score of 54-20 and also fell to the Moorhead Spuds with a score of 54-21.

Brumfield and Christensen Propel Comet Boys to Victory Against Ashby
Noah Brumfield demonstrated his prowess with a team-leading 18 points and 10 rebounds, guiding the Hillcrest boys’ basketball team to a 55-43 triumph over the Ashby Arrows.
Luke Christensen also made a significant contribution with 17 points in the victory.
The Comets secured a halftime lead of 30-26 after a first half marked by four ties and two lead changes.
The game saw the Comets seize an early advantage, scoring the initial 9 points.
They extended their dominance by scoring the first 5 points of the second half, re-establishing a nine-point lead, which eventually reached 13 as their largest lead.
Following Hillcrest’s break of the 20-20 tie, they maintained control without trailing again.
Sean Berge added 8 points, Ethan Swedberg contributed 7, and Gabe Swedenburg chipped in with 5 points.
Traeton Nelson made an impact for the Arrows, hitting three 3-pointers and totaling 11 points.
Jake Norby showcased his skills with 9 of his 11 points in the first half, while Kellen Dahlen finished with 8 points.
Hillcrest (4-1) is set to host Border West on Thursday, while Ashby (3-4) will play a home game against Park Christian School on the same day.
Underwood boys’ basketball
Underwood boys’ basketball team secured a notable victory against the Rothsay Tigers in a Little Eight Conference showdown on Tuesday night, finishing with a convincing scoreline of 66-50.
The Rockets maintained a lead of 31-27 at halftime, with Drew Evavold leading the charge by contributing 22 points. Additionally, Hudson Risbrudt and Evan Lundgren reached double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Owen Harig added 8 points to the scoreboard.
Expressing satisfaction with the team’s improved defensive play, Head Coach Kellen Shebeck commented, “We played a more complete game defensively, which was great to see.”, “Each game, the guys continue to improve.”
With a current record of 2-2, the Rockets are set to participate in the Lakeview Holiday Tournament on December 29 and 30.
They are scheduled to face Ortonville on Friday and Lakeview on Saturday.
On the other hand, Rothsay (2-4) will enjoy a break until January 4, when they are slated to host LEC opponent Brandon-Evansville.
Perham Yellowjackets showcased a strong comeback on Tuesday night, securing a satisfying 71-60 victory over East Grand Forks.
Taking an early lead, Perham, led by Willow Thiel’s impressive performance, saw Thiel contributing 8 of the first 10 points.
Despite East Grand Forks persistently narrowing the lead, particularly through free throws where Perham accumulated 13 fouls in the first half, the Yellowjackets maintained a 32-26 halftime advantage.
Facing foul trouble, Thiel on the bench with 3 fouls, Cora Grismer, and Kennedy Pilgrim with 2 each, Kaia Anderson stepped up with 10 crucial first-half points, while Greta Raser added two important three-pointers.
In the second half, Grismer, Pilgrim, and Thiel, having used the first-half rest strategically, combined to score all 39 points for Perham.
Grismer handled point guard duties efficiently, Pilgrim hit four threes, and Thiel showcased her scoring prowess, ending the night with an impressive 31 points and 13 rebounds.
The game remained competitive, but Perham, leading by around 10 points for most of the last 18 minutes, never left the outcome in doubt.
The bench played a pivotal role in this victory, with notable contributions from Cate Diggins, Kaia Starzl, and Greta Raser, providing support during crucial moments.
Ryleigh Mickelson, though not scoring, impacted the game with 7 assists and 7 steals, including a key offensive rebound followed by an assist to Thiel for an open basket late in the game.
Despite areas for improvement, the Yellowjackets demonstrated increased intensity and energy compared to their previous game.
With a 6-2 record, Perham is set to host Fergus Falls on Thursday night at the HIVE.
Fifth loss for Otters with 6-1 Defeat to River Lakes
In Tuesday night’s matchup at the Fergus Falls Community Arena, the Otters faced a 33-19 shots-on-goal disadvantage against River Lakes, resulting in a 6-1 victory for the Stars.
River Lakes capitalized on the Otters’ penalties, converting on 3-of-4 power play opportunities, starting with the opening goal of the night. Brandon Carlson, assisted by Blake Schultz, secured a 1-0 lead for River Lakes after the first period.
The second period saw goals from Anthony Fink, assisted by Jace Griffin, and Eric Paulson, with Tyson Bruntlett providing the assist, giving the Stars a 2-0 lead.
Fergus Falls responded with a power play goal from Kellen Stenstrom at 6:36 of the second, assisted by Jack Welde and Shane Zierden.
In the third period, Parker Welz scored a power play goal at 3:35, assisted by Schultz and Fink.
Welz added an even-strength goal at 5:48, set up by Matthew Dotzler, and at 10:17, Griffin secured another power play goal with assists from Dotzler and Welz.
Fergus Falls, now with a 1-5 record, is set to play at Willmar on Thursday.
Hannah Johnson Seals Otters’ 5-4 Overtime Triumph with Tying and Winning Goals
In a thrilling Tuesday night matchup, the Fergus Falls girls’ hockey team orchestrated a remarkable comeback, overcoming a 4-2 second-period deficit to secure a 5-4 overtime victory against the St. Cloud Crush.
Despite facing a 39-38 shots-on-goal scenario, Hannah Johnson delivered the game-winning goal 2:31 into the extra period, assisted by Maggie Greenagel and Rachel Debrito.
Reflecting on the game, Fergus Falls Head Coach Tim Lill acknowledged the team’s early challenges but praised their resilience, stating, “We put ourselves in a bad situation in the first period, not ready to play.” and adding,
“I am proud of the determination in the third to not quit. Greeny to DB to Johnson in OT, best hockey play I’ve seen in quite a while.”
The Otters initially fell behind 2:25 into the game with a goal from Kylie Smith, assisted by Tatum O’Neal.
However, they quickly equalized as Hannah Bye found the net at 5:01, with assists from Aubree Nelson and Greenagel. St. Cloud regained the lead at 12:24 with Lauren Juncewski scoring from Maggie O’Hara.
Fergus Falls leveled the score at 2-2 at 13:48, courtesy of Vanessa Vaughn’s goal, assisted by Brook Zierden and McKenzie Sjolie.
St. Cloud dominated the second period, scoring two goals to take a 4-2 lead. Juncewski scored from O’Hara, and Teagan Ruprecht found the net from Molly Burkstrand and Jayden Layne.
The third period saw a resurgence from the Otters. Sjolie’s power-play goal from Vaughn and Greenagel narrowed the lead to 4-3 at 11:16.
Then, with just 1:01 left in regulation, Hannah Johnson scored the tying goal from Debrito and Averie Tonneson, forcing overtime.
Ana Jyrkas, showcasing stellar goaltending, stopped 34 of the 38 shots she faced, including all 11 third-period shots and the lone overtime shot by the Crush.
With a 6-4-1 record, Fergus Falls is set to host Willmar on Thursday night.
Hornets Maintain 60% Shooting Accuracy in Victory Against Brandon-Evansville
The Henning boys’ basketball team showcased a strong performance, securing a 77-51 victory over Brandon-Evansville.
Holding a 36-26 lead at halftime, the Hornets added 41 second-half points while limiting their opponents to 25.
Kale Misegades led the Hornets with an impressive 32 points on 14-of-23 shooting, showcasing versatility with 6 assists, 2 blocked shots, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds.
Logan Kostelecky contributed 8 points along with 3 assists and 3 rebounds, while Lane Dilly made significant contributions with 4 assists and 6 rebounds.
Henning demonstrated remarkable shooting accuracy, finishing at a robust 60% (32-53) from the field and connecting on 42% (8-19) of their 3-point attempts.
The Hornets also dominated the rebounding battle, securing a 26-17 advantage.
Brandon-Evansville, on the other hand, shot 34% (15-43) from the floor. Micah Fuller led the Chargers with 17 points, and Tanner Riedel added 15, while Dustin Gillespie finished with 8 points.
The Chargers, now with a 3-2 record, are set to play at Battle Lake on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the undefeated Henning Hornets (6-0) will travel to Twin Valley on Thursday to face Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal.
