As winter settles in, temperatures across Minnesota are defying seasonal norms, setting the stage for what is projected to be the warmest December on record in the state.

The remarkable warmth throughout the month has prompted speculation on whether December 2023 will secure its place in history as Minnesota’s warmest December ever recorded.

With only a few days left in the month, statistical analysis indicates a high likelihood of this occurrence.

With the exception of a single day—December 10th—every day this month has experienced temperatures above the historical average.

The average temperature for December 2023, as of now, stands at an unprecedented 35.1 degrees.

If this trend continues into the new year, it is poised to surpass the previous record set in 1877, which stands at 33.8 degrees.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Minnesota residents can expect sunny weather with temperatures hovering in the lower 30s.

This pattern is anticipated to persist into the new year, accompanied by extended periods of sunshine.

The absence of major weather systems in the forecast further supports the likelihood of December 2023 clinching the title of Minnesota’s warmest December on record.

The warmest Christmas Day record was also broke as well for Minnesota, the temperature rose to 54 degrees at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, breaking the record of 51 degrees in 1922.
