The Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce is hosting their ‘Battle of the Businesses Bowling Tournament’ on Saturday February 10th.
For the last thirty years the Chamber has partnered with Northern Aire Lanes to put on the tournament.
Businesses in town can sign up teams of four to participate, and each team will be playing three games.
The first will be “Blackout Bingo,” where instead of going for the highest score, teams will be trying to hit many different amounts of pins to fill in their bingo sheet.
The team that fill their sheet out first will win a pizza and a beverage for their team.
The second game is “9 Pin No Tap,” where when you hit nine pins, it counts as a strike.
The final game is “Scotch Doubles,” where team members will take turns, with one person bowling first, and the second person “cleaning up” any remaining pins.
Lisa Workman, the President of the Chamber, says this year’s theme is also going to put an extra spin on businesses’ bowls,
“This year is the ‘Lucky Strike’ tournament. We picked a Las Vegas theme since the Super Bowl is in Las Vegas the next day. We are going to incorporate a little ‘fun gambling’ for extra pins.”
In previous years, the organizations that have bought the ‘Strike’ or ‘Spare’ packages would receive a certain amount of extra pins automatically added to their score, but this year, package holders will be playing cards for their additional pins.
Workman reassures that the tournament is for pros and novices alike,
“This is an event for everyone, from people who have their own shoes, and a locker, and they bowl every Tuesday or Wednesday night, they’re in a league, to folks that the most they know about bowling is which direction the ball goes. It’s all about having fun together.”
There are three times on February 10th that businesses can bowl for the tournament.
The 5:00 p.m. time slot is full, but there are still spots remaining for businesses to sign up at the 12:45 and 3:00 p.m. slots.
Currently, the tournament is only open to Chamber member organizations, but other businesses can enter if there are open spots starting February 1st.
Along with hosting the bowling tournament, the Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce works to help their member businesses grow, promote events, and advocate for their members to the City Council and give businesses a voice to local legislation.
