Fergus Falls, MN – A Bismarck man was arrested on Thursday (November 21st) after being caught attempting to bring drugs into Otter Tail County Court via his rectum.
According to court documents, an Otter Tail County Deputy was summoned to the Otter Tail County Detention Facility at around 9:45 Thursday morning for an issue with 32-year-old Weston Espitia of Bismarck, who was coming from court into the detention facility for a urinalysis and was refusing to go through the body scan machine.
After speaking with Espitia, it was determined that he had controlled substances up his rectum, which were being taken out in a holding cell. An ambulance was requested, as one of the baggies was believed to be broken. Espitia was brought to Lake Region Healthcare, where the final baggie was removed from his anal cavity.
Afterwards, the deputy spoke with Espitia, who stated that he had been in court for another appearance and was ordered by the Court to submit to a random test in the detention facility. He explained that he had a “gut feeling” the night before that he would end up in jail and decided to stuff five same sized baggies containing fentanyl in his rectum so he would have access to them while incarcerated to help with his withdrawal.
The contents of the bags were processed, and it was determined there was 12 grams of suspected fentanyl and 2.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Espitia made a court appearance on Friday morning (November 22nd) and has been charged with one count of 2nd Degree Possession of Drugs and one count of 5th Degree Possession. He was previously arrested in May during a drug related traffic stop on Lincoln Avenue.
