UPDATE: 3-Year-Old in Otter Tail County Killed After Receiving a Gunshot Wound to the Head

Deer Creek, MN – Otter Tail County officials are reporting that a 3.5-year-old boy that received a gunshot wound to the head has passed away from his injuries.

According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department, officials received a 911 call from a residence in Oak Valley Township, southeast of Deer Creek, at around 5:40 Sunday evening (December 29th) reporting that a three and a half year-old male child had accidentally shot himself. The child was rushed to Astera Health in Wadena to be treated for his serious wounds. On Monday, officials announced that the boy had passed away from his injuries.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department. No more information is being shared at this time.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by New York Mills Police Department, Deer Creek Fire and Rescue, and Wadena Ambulance.
